Adare (they/them) is a classically trained portrait artist, disability rights activist, and founder
of Kīpaipai Art Foundation. Collaborating with HAAS, The Womans March and Hawai'i
Island Pride, the foundation has helped nurture a thriving creative community by painting
neighborhood murals, hosting free workshops, donating art supplies, providing shelter and
resources to those impacted by the 2018 Kileaua eruption, as well as free Zoom classes
during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Adare’s painting portfolio is recognizable for its vibrancy, use of gold leaf, and focus on
cultural diversity. As both a nonbinary and differently abled person with Ehlers Danlos
Syndrome, Adare uses their portraits to shed light on social justice issues. Adare’s
celebrated models include rockstars, authors, artists, indigenous rights advocates, and
Queer icons who actively improve the world we all live in.
Adare began making art very young and has never stopped. In their twenties, their curiosity
took them to both Europe and Asia for inspiration. They then attended the San Francisco
Academy of Art, earning a full three-year scholarship at the Temescal Atelier for Classical
Realism. Settling in Hawai‘i in 2006, they founded the Kīpaipai School of Art, authored two
books, and served on multiple boards and committees, while continuing to exhibit
throughout the U.S.
As a motivational speaker, Adare often talks through the artistic lens of a queer,
transgender person with disabilities. Recently they have been collaborating with Everylife
Foundation, an artist to advocate program that helps pass legislation to improve access to
healthcare for those with rare diseases.
Adare deeply enjoys working with curators, centers and museums who are interested in
developing imaginative, engaging, and interactive exhibits that close the gap between
tolerance and true acceptance.

Beckie Marshall
Beckie Marshall is a dedicated and versatile teaching artist with a strong background in ceramics, digital media, crochet, sewing, and art history. A graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo with a BA in Sociology, Beckie founded Club Mud Hawai‘i in 2005, a dynamic teaching studio focused on handbuilding ceramics through projects that incorporate history, chemistry, and cultural storytelling.
Her teaching experience spans nearly two decades and includes programs at E.B. de Silva Elementary School, East Hawai‘i Cultural Center, and Hilo High School’s Lanakila Learning Center, where she continues to lead special interest workshops. Beckie’s approach encourages students to understand the responsive nature of clay and to develop their creativity through technique and experimentation.

Shawne Cooper
Shawne Cooper is a NYC-based artist, as well as an award-winning copywriter and creative director.
She is a longstanding sketcher in the Urban Sketchers community who is always exploring new ways to tell stories, especially ones that combine the visual and the verbal.
Shawne loves inspiring others, too, and has led workshops at Pratt Institute, for the NYC Urban Sketchers community, at the NY Public Library, and in a tiny hilltop village in Italy.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries, at the Philippine Consulate, and even as a flag flying over Rockefeller Center (a Chinese dumpling flag, at that!).

Patti Pease Johnson
Patti Pease Johnson creates and teaches art workshops in three mediums: liquid dye on silk, soft pastel, and watercolor and has been teaching at Volcano Art Center for 16 years, along with other locations.
She has home and fashion accessory lines in galleries and gift shops around the state and her original artworks are in homes around the world because there are so many travelers from many places in Hawaii.
She has had nine solo exhibitions, been in numerous juries art competitions, and has been curator of four major multiple artist exhibits. She has been a long time board member of art organizations.
Mrs. Johnson is a self-taught artist who relishes taking intensive art workshops, and is enjoying journeys of learning to work with clay, metal forming and acrylic painting.
